Start with the kind of day guests want
A familiar beach name is not enough. Decide whether the priority is lunch and attentive service, swimming, watersports, privacy, shopping, or simply two relaxed hours off the yacht.
Ask about water confidence, mobility, shade, toilets, changing facilities and children’s needs. A coast that suits strong swimmers may be a poor choice for someone who needs stable access or close facilities.
Service and activity: Orient Bay or Simpson Bay
Orient Bay works when guests want loungers, food and activity options in one area. Its Atlantic exposure means wind, swell and sargassum can alter the plan, so confirm the chosen club and conditions before departure.
Simpson Bay and Kim Sha can suit a short schedule from the lagoon, with restaurants and evening options nearby. Choose the exact section carefully because atmosphere, swimming, noise and service differ along the bay.
Swimming and a slower pace: Mullet Bay or Anse Marcel
Mullet Bay is a useful candidate when guests mainly want sand and time in the water. Service can be less uniform than at a managed beach club, so confirm shade, loungers, food, toilets and payment arrangements.
Anse Marcel can suit a quieter swim-led day in a more enclosed setting. The road approach, beach access and services need checking, and no beach should be described as calm until the day’s sea state is understood.
Beach plus another purpose: Great Bay or Maho
Great Bay combines time by the water with Philipsburg’s Boardwalk, lunch and shopping. Cruise calls and events can change the atmosphere, so it is practical rather than secluded.
Maho is primarily a plane-spotting experience. Keep transport waiting and obey the official warnings. Maho and the airport approach are no-fly zones for drones without an exemption; throwing or launching any object toward an aircraft is also prohibited. Stay away from the runway fence and never treat jet blast as part of the entertainment.
Let logistics make the final choice
Work backwards from the yacht return. Road traffic, wet clothing, changing, venue billing and marina access can make a beach that looks close awkward in practice.
For a short window, a good nearby beach usually beats an ambitious crossing. For a full day, the quality of the reserved seating, lunch, shade and backup matters more than the name of the bay.

Is Maho safe for guests?
It can be visited responsibly as a short plane-spotting stop. Guests must obey local warnings, avoid restricted areas and the runway fence, and never use drones or throw objects toward aircraft.
