The fastest aircraft cannot rescue incomplete cargo paperwork. Align the shipper, carrier, Customs, consignee and onboard receiver before dispatch.
Make the shipment identifiable
Provide a precise commercial description, part and serial numbers where relevant, quantity, value and currency, country of origin, dimensions, weight and dangerous-goods status. Obtain the commercial invoice, packing list, airway bill and any shipment-specific permits before uplift.
Ask the carrier, forwarder or customs representative for the exact document set. A vague description such as ‘yacht part’ slows classification and creates avoidable questions.
Name every responsible party
State the legal consignee and notify party, vessel name, berth, onboard contact and final delivery point. Name who is authorized to make declarations, pay charges and collect the package. Do not assume an agent is the importer, broker or consignee without written agreement.
Track four separate milestones
SXM Airport operates a dedicated cargo facility with on-site Customs and directs shipment tracking questions to the carrier, forwarder or courier. Record flight arrival, warehouse availability, Customs status and legal release as separate events.
For the final mile, set the collection authority, identification, warehouse access, vehicle capacity, marina security, delivery window and onboard receiver. Temporary imports, warranty returns and onward export need case-specific advice before shipping.
Do not let an aircraft-arrival notification trigger a promise to the engineer. Ask the forwarder for the next actionable milestone and timestamp every handoff. If the vessel may sail before release, agree the holding or onward-shipping instruction before the package reaches Sint Maarten.
